MusicScaffold: Bridging Machine Efficiency and Human Growth in Adolescent Creative Education through Generative AI

MusicScaffold is a generative AI framework designed for adolescent music education (ages 12-14) that positions AI as a guide, coach, and partner to support creative expression while preventing cognitive offloading. The four-week study evaluates how the system scaffolds cognitive growth (vague emotions to structured strategies), behavioral growth (passive use to active self-regulation), and affective growth (frustration to confident authorship).

Adolescence is marked by strong creative impulses but limited strategies for structured expression, often leading to frustration or disengagement. While generative AI lowers technical barriers and delivers efficient outputs, its role in fostering adolescents'expressive growth has been overlooked.
