This paper presents and empirically validates the Odychess approach, a dialectic and constructivist methodology for teaching chess using generative AI (specifically a fine-tuned Llama 3.3 model acting as a Socratic tutor). A quasi-experimental study with 60 students demonstrates significant improvements in chess knowledge, strategic understanding, and metacognitive skills compared to a control group.
